Bike transport charges in Kolkata: rates, packing and paperwork

What it costs to send a bike or scooty out of Kolkata, how it should be packed, and the documents the carrier will ask for.

What bike transport costs from Kolkata

Two-wheeler transport is priced by distance and engine capacity. A 100–150cc commuter or a scooty is the cheapest band; 200–400cc bikes cost more because they need wider crating; and 500cc-plus machines are priced individually because they usually travel in a dedicated crate.

From Kolkata, expect roughly ₹2,500 to ₹4,500 within West Bengal, ₹3,500 to ₹6,000 to Odisha, Jharkhand and Bihar, ₹5,500 to ₹9,000 to Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai, and ₹6,000 to ₹10,000 to Delhi, Mumbai and Pune.

Shared-carrier transport is the standard and is fine for commuters. A dedicated crate costs about 40% more and is the right choice for a superbike or a restored classic.

  • Within West Bengal: ₹2,500 – ₹4,500
  • Odisha / Jharkhand / Bihar: ₹3,500 – ₹6,000
  • Bengaluru / Hyderabad / Chennai: ₹5,500 – ₹9,000
  • Delhi / Mumbai / Pune: ₹6,000 – ₹10,000
  • Northeast states: ₹5,000 – ₹9,500
  • Dedicated crate for superbikes: +40%

How a bike should be packed

Correct two-wheeler packing is not a tarpaulin and a rope. The tank and side panels get bubble wrap, the handlebar and levers get foam sleeving, the mirrors come off, and the whole machine is wrapped in stretch film before it is strapped to the carrier deck on soft-loop straps rather than chained through the frame.

Fuel is drained to near-empty because a full tank is a fire risk and adds weight. The battery terminal is disconnected on long hauls. Anything loose — top box, saddle bags, helmet — travels separately or not at all.

If a mover does not mention any of this when quoting, you are talking to a broker who will hand your bike to whoever is cheapest that week.

Documents and delivery

Carry a copy of the RC, a valid insurance certificate and a PUC. Interstate carriers are stopped at checkposts and an expired PUC will hold your consignment. Photograph the odometer and all sides before handover, and sign the condition report only after checking it matches.

Transit times from Kolkata run two to three days within eastern India, four to six days to south and west India, and five to seven days to Delhi and the north. Spring Hill picks up from your door, shares the carrier's tracking, and delivers to your new address rather than to a distant transport nagar.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to transport a bike from Kolkata to Bangalore?

Around ₹5,500 to ₹9,000 depending on engine capacity and whether the bike travels in a shared carrier or a dedicated crate.

Should the fuel tank be empty for bike transport?

Nearly empty. Carriers drain the tank to a minimum for fire safety and weight, so plan to arrive at pickup with very little fuel.

Is the bike insured in transit?

Yes. Transit insurance to declared value is included, and a signed condition report is taken at pickup and again at delivery.

Can I send my bike and household goods together?

Yes, and it is cheaper. A two-wheeler booked with a household consignment travels on the same job at a combined rate.
